In February, before the pandemic and total crash of our industry, I visited Scandic Nidelven Hotel in Trondheim, Norway. 

This hotel has been awarded The Best Hotel Breakfast Award in Norway 12 or 13 years in a row. 

I booked myself into this hotel specifically, as I wanted to find out what it actually means to own the title "Best Hotel Breakfast". 

Oh boy, oh boy....

It is hard to describe in words this breakfast. 

Superb! Unique! One of a kind!

Words do not do this breakfast justice.

It is easy to see why they keep winning this award. 

I had a chance to meet the GM at the property and we had a quick chat. I obviously expressed my enthusiasm. I cannot find anything I would like to point out "not up to par" with this breakfast experience. 

I could point out a few things about the hotel, but they are minor and fade when you think about their breakfast. 

The GM told me that they had the highest costs with their breakfast of all the hotels in the chain. But he could also share that his hotel is the most profitable in the chain. 

There is a direct link between the breakfast and profitability. 

I booked myself there BECAUSE of the breakfast. 

The hotel director also confirmed that many MICE groups do the same. 

This breakfast is not only an experience, but it has become a destination in and of itself. 

I also share what can happen if you sit on the other side of the spectrum. A hotel in Riga, Latvia, despite a good budget alternative, is no longer a hotel we use for our groups, because we have gotten so many negative remarks on their breakfast. 

Do amazing stuff and you win in business. The opposite will yield opposite results as well.
